Project Engineer – Cost Estimator
Silent Aire – Dublin
What you will do
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Engineer with strong cost estimation expertise to support engineering activities across our data centre cooling product range, including AHU, CRAH, CDU units and Fan Wall systems.
You will play a key role in developing accurate and competitive cost estimates, supporting fast-paced quotation cycles typical of the data centre industry.
In addition, you will take ownership of smaller engineering projects, working independently to deliver value in areas such as instrument calibration, system support, and internal project execution.
Reporting to the Engineering Project Manager, you will collaborate closely with Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, and Commercial teams, while demonstrating a high degree of autonomy in daily activities.
How you will do it
Cost Estimation (Core Function)
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for AHU, CRAH, CDU units, Fan Wall systems, and associated data centre cooling equipment.
- Break down costs across materials, fabrication (sheet metal, coils, fans), outsourced components, and labour.
- Develop and maintain costing tools, templates, and pricing databases to support faster quoting.
- Support RFQs, tenders, and customer proposals with timely and competitive cost inputs.
- Analyse historical project data to improve cost models and estimation accuracy.
- Identify cost risks and propose value engineering opportunities.
- Improve costing accuracy, speed, and repeatability through better tools and processes.
- Support development of standard product costing structures for data centre solutions.
Project Engineering (Autonomous Workstream)
- Independently manage small-to-medium internal projects, particularly those not prioritised within core engineering team.
- Take ownership from scope definition through execution, ensuring delivery with minimal supervision.
- Coordinate with design, procurement teams to deliver practical solutions.
- Lead or support instrument calibration activities (e.g., sensors, pressure devices, airflow measurement equipment used in testing of AHU, CDU, CRAH/Fan Wall units).
- Carry out hands-on technical tasks where dedicated resources are limited.
- Document current processes, workflows, and best practices, identify inefficiencies and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Standardize tools, templates, and procedures across teams
- Support implementation of lean or process optimization initiatives
- Support learning program
What we look for
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar discipline.
- 3–6 years’ experience in cost estimation, project engineering, or similar roles.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and take ownership of tasks/projects.
- Experience supporting or managing engineering projects.
- Strong attention to detail with high accountability for outputs.
- Practical, hands-on mindset with willingness to step into varied technical tasks.
- Excellent communicator when engaging with internal stakeholders.
- Strong experience in cost estimation within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Good understanding of mechanical systems, fabrication, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take initiative.
- Strong analytical and numerical capability.
- Proficiency in Excel and costing tools (ERP experience is an advantage).
- Basic understanding of instrumentation and calibration processes is desirable.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work under tight timelines.
