Job Description
Duties and responsabilities :
- Lead and undertake assignments in Ireland and internationally, collaborating across teams in a multidisciplinary environment
- Deliver geotechnical solutions across a broad range of structural types and using local and international standard, including:
- Geotechnical design and analysis at a range of project stages including conceptual, preliminary and detailed design
- Checking and analysis of internal and third-party designs
- Value engineering to review designs and assist in finding solutions and improvements for clients
- Finite element analysis and report on results
- Prepare drawings, reports, calculations, analysis and specifications to report internally and to clients
- Carry out site inspections, investigations and supervision for projects, liaising with designers and contractors to support construction works
- Monitor staff time and budgets against assignment programme and agree appropriate actions where necessary
- Undertake project management which may include monitoring programmes and budgets, liaising with teams and individuals and reporting progress and updates, liaise with Clients and managing Client relationships
- Assisting in the planning and organisation of resources, to maximise fee income and resource utilisation
- Support the management of the design process that may include other related design disciplines/teams
- Coordinating design as part of an internal team and liaising with external associated professionals and our clients
- Assist in sourcing and developing business opportunities, securing business and developing client relationships
- Support the development and maintenance of a high level of technical capability to deliver the service offerings targeted, including mentoring Graduates and Engineers, particularly for Chartership
- Assist with the organisation and management of the technical staff, acting as a line manager as required, supporting staff recruitment, training, CPD and implementation of best practice and procedures
- Assist in providing appropriate resources for the successful delivery of assignments
- Identify and act on opportunities for growth on assignments.Assist in sourcing and developing business opportunities - producing tenders and building client relationships
- Adopt procedures for standardisation of work products and deliverables, and peer review to ensure consistency and excellence in service delivery of the Company’s technical work product
- Follow Company procedures in the management, delivery and administration of Services
- Have an understanding and awareness of the company values and business plan and your contribution to both
- Embrace and contribute to the Health and Safety (H&S) culture of the Company by proactively engaging in H&S matters and observing relevant polices
- Be aware of and engage with the Environmental objectives of the Group and consider sustainability in your project and company roles
- Embrace organisational change and appropriately modify behaviour and attitudes as required
- Undertake other reasonable duties as requested by your assignment or line manager
Qualifications
Key experience and qualifications :
- Professionally qualified and Chartered Civil Engineer, ideally with a post graduate qualification in a geotechnically related subject
- Extensive knowledge of Eurocodes and relevant national and international industry standards, contracts, methodologies and procedures
- Good knowledge of geotechnical and engineering geological processes and design, with a particular emphasis on data interpretation, design & analysis, construction and advanced numerical modelling
- Detailed geotechnical design experience of large diameter deep piled foundations (driven, bored and CFA) to Eurocode, API, AASHTO, LRFD NGI and ICP methods / standards, seismic / dynamic analysis of deep piled foundations and pile groups, deep excavations, basements, retaining structures, earthworks, soil and rock slope engineering, ground improvement, seismicity and liquefaction and instrumentation and monitoring
- Ground investigation experience including design, preparation of tender documents, supervision, interpretation
- Experience at Assignment Manager and Designer level with a proven record of managing commercial and contractual aspects and delivering assignments to programme and budget
- Experience predominantly in large-scale, high-profile infrastructure projects, for a range of Clients in various construction market sectors
- Proven ability to build, maintain and develop relationships with clients
- People management experience e.g. general employee welfare, carrying our appraisals, training and development, involvement in resourcing and recruitment activities would be beneficial

- Team: Excellent team working skills; able to lead, contribute to and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teamsin a matrix environment
- Leadership: Demonstrates high standards, involves the team and drives it to listen to, interpret and exceed client expectations. Strong coaching and mentoring skills to train, develop and give constructive feedback to other engineers and technicians.
- Project Management: Results orientated with a strong drive to deliver success, a proven ability to manage medium/large budgets, projects and programmes of work to agreed targets and priorities. Able to clearly communicate objectives and make timely, rational decisions with the information available and learn from successes and failures.
SOFTWARE & DIGITAL SKILLS :
- Expert / Proficient user of 2D and 3D finite element analysis software (e.g. PLAXIS, Z-soil)
- Proficient user of other geotechnical software (WALLAP, Repute, GROUP, LPile, APile, Rocscience Slide2, gINT, or equivalent)
- 2-D and 3-D CAD tools
- Excellent Microsoft Office abilities (particularly Excel)
- Programming / scripting knowledge would be beneficial (not required)
