What We're Looking For
The Senior Engineering Manager, Data & ML Platform is a hands-on technical leader who combines strong engineering expertise with a passion for developing people and teams. In this role, you will help shape and scale the platform capabilities that power Datavant's products, including our data lake and warehouse, ingestion and streaming frameworks, ML platform, and the operational controls required to support regulated healthcare data.
You will lead engineers across three platform areas:
Lake & Warehouse Infrastructure
The storage and analytics foundation, including data lake and warehouse technologies, governance, performance, reliability, and cost optimisation.
Ingestion & Streaming Frameworks
The systems and frameworks that move data safely and efficiently across Datavant, including batch and streaming ingestion, CDC, and document intake.
ML Platform
The infrastructure and tooling that enable machine learning and AI capabilities, including model training and inference, document understanding, LLM-powered services, feature management, model lifecycle tooling, and observability.
Our Data & ML Platform organisation is globally distributed. You will manage Ireland-based engineers across these platform areas while partnering closely with a peer Engineering Manager in the US who supports US-based team members. Together, you will operate as one leadership team with shared goals, roadmaps, and delivery outcomes.

What You Will Do
- Define and communicate a cohesive vision and roadmap across the Data & ML Platform organisation.
- Ensure platform investments enable product teams to build, innovate, and deliver more effectively.
- Partner with engineering teams to provide reliable, scalable, and secure platform capabilities for data, machine learning, and AI workloads.
- Support the evolution of Datavant's ML platform, enabling teams to deploy and operate AI solutions with appropriate observability, governance, cost management, and safeguards for sensitive healthcare data.
- Deliver against platform roadmap commitments while balancing near-term business needs with long-term technical investments.
- Foster a high-performing, inclusive team environment through coaching, mentorship, regular feedback, and career development.
- Partner with your US-based leadership counterpart on hiring, planning, team development, and delivery execution.
- Collaborate with Product, Research, Data, Security, Infrastructure, and Clinical stakeholders to align platform strategy with business priorities.
- Work with Finance and Infrastructure partners to manage cloud infrastructure, model and API costs, GPU capacity planning, and vendor relationships.
- Ensure platform capabilities meet Datavant's requirements for privacy, security, auditability, lineage, and responsible handling of regulated healthcare data.
What You Need to Succeed
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering, data platform engineering, cloud infrastructure, or related technical disciplines.
- 3+ years of experience leading and developing teams of software engineers or infrastructure engineers.
- Strong technical foundation with the ability to contribute to technical discussions, architecture decisions, code reviews, and problem solving when needed.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar technologies as part of an engineering workflow.
- Demonstrated success leading engineering teams through growth, change, and complex technical initiatives.
- Experience building and operating modern data platforms, including data ingestion, streaming systems, data lakes or warehouses, and related governance and observability tooling.
- Experience working within regulated environments and balancing compliance, security, and delivery requirements.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-moving environment where priorities evolve and teams collaborate across locations and disciplines.
Nice to Have
- Experience working with healthcare data, including EHR, claims, clinical documents, or HL7/FHIR standards.
- Experience supporting machine learning platforms or AI infrastructure in production environments.
- Experience with GPU capacity planning and large-scale model deployment.
- Experience leading teams responsible for AI evaluation, testing, or safety-focused validation frameworks.
- Familiarity with HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC 2, GDPR, or similar regulatory frameworks.
